Shanghai, 8th July 2011 – The most exciting new market for the world’s mining industry will now have its first international trade show for mining and construction industries. Allworld Exhibitions, Asia’s largest private association of international trade show organisers have launched Mining Mongolia 2012, to take place in Ulaanbaatar from 5-7 September 2012. Allworld Exhibitions and their affiliate companies organise some 150 exhibitions across Asia and the Middle East. The group’s calendar of events include some of Asia’s most prestigious exhibitions for mining, construction and oil and gas industries including Mining Indonesia; Mining Vietnam; Building and Infrastructure Indonesia; OSEA Singapore; MEOS Bahrain and GEO India.

Mining Mongolia 2012, The International Mining & Mineral Recovery Exhibition is organised with the support of The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy; Ministry of Transport , Infrastructure and Construction; Mongolian Miners Club; Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and The Business Council of Mongolia. “There are a number of mining finance conferences and small local supplier exhibitions, however Mining Mongolia 2012 will be the first international standard exhibition to bring technology and new equipment suppliers to Mongolia on a scale never witnessed before”, stated Brendan Jennings, Director New Markets for Allworld Exhibitions. Known as the “land of the Great Blue sky” the weather conditions in Mongolia can be fierce, ranging from -40c in winter to +40c in summer. “The timing of this event, which requires significant areas of outside space is critical”, claimed Jennings. “Between October to end of April it is too cold for outside displays and from May to June there are high winds, while July and August is the rainy season and too hot. September temperatures average 10-15 degrees C, marking the end of the traditional mining season and in our opinion the only time suitable for a large scale exhibition with inside and large outside machinery displays. Despite the busy international calendar for global events in September 2012 we believe it is essential that the Mongolian market opportunity is seized on while budgets are being put in place for the following year.’’

The potential of the Mongolian mining sector is beyond doubt. With a land mass of 1.6m square kms, the 19th largest in the world and under 25% of the country geologically surveyed there are already 6,000 identified mineral deposits covering 69 elements of the total 111 elements of the periodic table according to the Mongolian Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade Agency (FIFTA). Mining makes up 22.5 % of GDP and the IMF now estimates total GDP to accelerate 20 fold by 2019. Currently 15 strategically important deposits of world class resources have been identified including the Oyu Tolgoi copper, gold and silver mine, ranked as the world’s largest undeveloped copper deposit and managed by Ivanhoe, Rio Tinto and the Mongolian government.

Tavan Tolgoi, the world’s largest untapped deposit of coking coal, recently awarded to Shenhua of China, a Russian-Mongolian consortium and Peabody the largest US coal miner; Tumertei iron ore mine and Tsagaan Suvarga copper and molybdenum deposit. Mongolia is also rich in gold and iron ore, in addition to significant deposits of uranium and rare earth.

Land locked between the rapidly expanding economies of Russia and China, Mongolia has easy access to markets for their minerals and at relatively low transport cost to the north and south. The challenged faced by the Mongolian government and the opportunity for international suppliers of technology is the urgent need to build infrastructure to access mines and transport minerals to neighbouring markets. The Oyu Tolgoi mine has a total project investment of US$ 4 billion, including plant and infrastructure to support initial throughput of 100,000 tonnes of ore per day, electric generator plant; a permanent domestic airport, road and rail links. While the government has plans to build over 2,500 kms of paved roads and 5,500 kms of new railway an investment of US$5 billion is required between now and 2020.
